Mortgage Interest Relief
Grant value: Up to €1,250 (single) or €2,500 (jointly assessed) per tax year — 20% of your interest increase vs 2022
A temporary tax relief for homeowners whose mortgage interest payments rose above their 2022 level. You claim 20% of the increase back through your annual tax return. Introduced in Budget 2024 and extended in Budget 2025 to cover the 2024 tax year.
Key Requirements
- ✓Mortgage must have been on your principal private residence on 31 December 2022
- ✓Mortgage balance must have been between €80,000 and €500,000 at end of 2022
- ✓Relief is 20% of the increase in interest paid versus 2022 — you must have paid more interest
- ✓Claim via your annual tax return or through myAccount on Revenue.ie
- ✓Covers tax years 2023 and 2024
